American Legion 2009 Golf Tournament Results

The American Legion Post 119 wants to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who played in, sponsored or volunteered at its 9th annual Golf Tournament recently held at the Estes Park 18-hole Golf Course.

Although no one won the Chevrolet Traverse with a hole-in-one on number 10, many people had great shots into the green, including local chef Russell Stephens.

All of the proceeds from the tournament benefit Estes Park’s local youth in the form of college scholarships. This year, the Legion awarded $5,000 in scholarships to J. Audas ($1500), R. Hull ($2000) and B. Weaklim ($1500).

First Place TeamCongratulations to the first place team (shown at left) comprised of Shane Ring, Steve Taylor, Gareth Mynatt, and Mark Swan Lund, whose 4-person scramble team shot an impressive 15 under par.

Second Place went to Team Trout Haven Ranch with players Lee Wicks, Kelly Wilkerson, Matt Michealis and Jim Matthais (shown below).

The tournament would not have been possible without the event organizer, Lee Wicks; the volunteer assistance of Nancy Hull, Dorothy Desanti, and Brian and Rachael Cantu, who kept everyone honest on hole number 10; Dink Oversteg and Jim O’Dell who manned the registration desk; and the Legion golf committee consisting of Stewart Newman, J. Halburnt and Harry Whalen.
