Pig Roast Party at the American Legion a Huge Success

The Sons of the American Legion hosted their annual Pig Roast on Sunday, August 9th beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The American Legion obtained a special alcohol permit for the pig roast and the bar was open to the public. The Pig Roast Party was free to attend, but for $12, you got roasted pork, cole slaw, baked beans, roasted corn, dessert and a beer or soda. The 170 lb. pig was roasted on site in a charcoal smoker for 16-20 hours.

Live entertainment with rockin’ blues band Midnight Trampoline began at 4 p.m. and lased until 8 p.m. Midnight Trampoline is a local band comprised of Lead guitarist John Weires, Drummer Tommy Yager, Bass guitarist Donnie Yager, Guitarist Robo, and Lead vocalist J. Halburnt. Special guest vocalists are Jeri Barleen and Amy Grewe.

There was a "washers" tournament beginning at 4 p.m. If you’ve never played washers, it’s a lot of fun. It similar to horseshoes, but instead of horseshoes, you toss washer rings. Washers is an outdoor game consisting of two washer boxes located opposite one another. Opposing teams stand on each end of the playing strip and throw washers in washer boxes placed on the opposite ends. The aim is to make the washers land in the hole of washer boxes.

The American Legion is conveniently located at the intersection of Highways 7 and 36 across the street from the Holiday Inn.

The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as a non-profit organization within The American Legion. The S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion. Together, members of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion make up what is known as The Legion Family. All three organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.
